Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA Federal Office of Public Health Division of Communicable Diseases The Swiss Urgent Action Plan (MSM) Steven Derendinger, MA

The Swiss Urgent Action Plan (MSM) Steven Derendinger, Roger Staub 26 July 2012 Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA Federal Office of Public Health Division of Communicable Diseases It’s about Primary HIV Infection (PHI) HIV spreads mainly though chains of PHI among networks of parallel sex partners (steady and sex-buddies). Safer Sex still remains the best way to prevent transmission during PHI. Test & Treat is not efficient to prevent transmission during PHI. Yet it is an important complementary answer. 2

The Swiss Urgent Action Plan (MSM) Steven Derendinger, Roger Staub 26 July 2012 Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA Federal Office of Public Health Division of Communicable Diseases 3 Where do you stand in this network?

The Swiss Urgent Action Plan (MSM) Steven Derendinger, Roger Staub 26 July 2012 Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA Federal Office of Public Health Division of Communicable Diseases The Swiss Urgent Action Plan Action field 1: Reduce the community viral load by breaking the chains of PHI with a yearly one month national campaign (Break The Chain). Action field 2: Reduce time from infection to diagnosis to 12 months. Action field 3: No transmission after diagnosis. 4
