Features of a castle By Year 2

The Keep By Adam Natalia Anja and Connor The keep is the tallest part of the castle. The keep is at the top of a turret. In this picture the turret is square but you can get round turrets. People in the castle will use it to look out for enemies.

Thick walls By Grace Luke Steven and Lewis It has very hard stones to pertect the castle it has stairs to walk on the wall knights walk on it to see who is comeing. They are tall so people can not clime up it.

Moat By Alfie W Liam Ryce and Dominic The moat is water around a castle to protect the castle. Castles with a moat have a drawbridge to cross the water. It helps to protect the people inside. If the enemy tries to get into the castle they will drown.

Drawbridge By Lacey Bailey Libbi and Molly. A drawbridge is used for letting people past the moat. The drawbridge is made of wood and it is very heavy and strong.

Gatehouse and Portcullis By Madra Iseabeal and Jamie Someone in the gatehouse watches and lets people into the castle by opening the iron gate. They need to open it so people who live in the castle can get in or out. It stops bad knights getting in. It is very heavy and can not be pushed. It has sharp points.

Arrow Slits By Sandra Keeley Ashlee and Yazmin. They are little holes in the castle walls that people shoot arrows through. They shoot at the enemy who are mean. Arrow slits can be all over the castle. They are only small so things cant get in.

Tower By Jasmine Thomas Jessica and Alfie L The tower has arrow slits and windows so they can see people coming to the castle. It might have a flag on top. Some knights will use the arrow slits for shooting people attacking the castle.
