Mountain Flying Qualifications, experience & minimum requirements Flight Examiner seminar Wellington 2010

Minimum instructor requirements For Terrain Awareness: Qualifications and experience as follows: 1) A, B or C category (out of direct supervision) instructor rating; and 2) Minimum 300 hours total time in aeroplanes; and 3) Minimum 25 hours P in C instructing in LFA in aeroplanes; and 4) Minimum 50 hours instructional experience in aeroplanes conducting PPL or CPL flight training exercises; and 5) Complete a course of Terrain Awareness ground and flight instruction; and 6) Demonstrate competence to an appropriately qualified flight examiner in accordance with this guide.

For Basic Mountain Flying: Qualifications and experience as follows: 1) A, B or C category instructor rating; and 2) Minimum 500 hours total time in aeroplanes; and 3) Minimum 50 hours P in C instructing in Terrain Awareness training; and 4) Minimum 150 hours instructional experience in aeroplanes conducting PPL or CPL flight training exercises; and 5) Complete a course of Mountain Flying ground and flight instruction; and 6) Demonstrate competence to an appropriately qualified flight examiner in accordance with this guide.

Minimum Requirements Low Flying & Terrain Awareness – all dual exercises Total: 5 hours comprising: - a minimum of 2 hours low flying training; and -a minimum of 2 hours Terrain and Weather Awareness training Satisfactory completion of the ground and this flight training to be certified in the logbook by an appropriately qualified instructor as per instrument and cross country flight test prerequisites.

Minimum Requirements Basic Mountain Flying – all dual exercises Total: 5 hours comprising: - a minimum of 2 hours low flying training; and -a minimum of 2 hours basic mountain flying NOTE: This basic mountain flying requirement is in addition to the terrain and weather awareness requirements met at PPL level. Satisfactory completion of the ground and this flight training is to be certified in the logbook by an appropriately qualified instructor as a prerequisite to the CPL flight test.
