The eukaryotic cytoplasm has a set of long, thin fibers called the cytoskeleton, which plays three important roles in cellular structure and function:
Levels of cellular organization
Cytoskeleton Introduction The cytoskeleton of a cell provides structure, strength, and motility. - It provides a cellular scaffolding upon which the cellular.

Cytoskeleton/Centrioles Division Kendall Repik, Mary Klein & Anya Erickson

Definition: a microscopic network of protein filaments and tubules in the cytoplasm of many living cells, giving them shape and coherence Helps the cell move and change shape when instructed to do so. Cytoskeleton

● Provides support ● Base structure Internal Skeleton

● AKA actin filaments ● Composed of bundles of actin proteins ● Thinnest part of cytoskeleton ● Keep organelles in place Microfilaments

Definition: Intermediate filaments are rope-like fibers made up of a variety of intermediate filament proteins. The rope-like structure of intermediate( actin: long thin filaments ) filaments gives them great strength( microtubule: long cylindrical hollow rods ) Function: Is to provide mechanical strength to cells to help them withstand stress (such as stretching and changing shape). Intermediate Filaments

● Present in animal cells and lower plant cells, but not higher plant cells. ● Constructed of microtubules ● Used to organize pericentriolar material to produce microtubules (animal cells). ● Somewhat of a paradox o Appear to have an effect on mitosis in animal cells (satisfactory outcome when present, satisfactory and unsatisfactory outcomes when not present) o Centrioles aren’t present in higher plant cells, but mitosis occurs normally. Centrioles Centrioles also help with the organization of chromosomes.

● Hold the Cell Together ● Support System ● Provide for Movement Why Choose Us?
