Unit 7.3 Making A Leaflet Starter Activities

Lesson 1 – What Is a Corporate Image? In Pairs look at the four leaflets and then: Identify three similarities between each pair of publications. Identify three differences between each pair of publications. (5 Min)

Lesson 2 – Elements of Good Design In Fours discuss the three designs. Think about:- Use of space, colour, logo, text. Decide which design you prefer, and list down why ( in exercise books) (5/7min)

Lesson 2 – Elements of Good Design (H/wk) How has the logo been used – where is it and is the size appropriate? How crowded or busy is the page? Is there too much or too little white space? Is the colour scheme effective? Are the different elements of the layout suitably balanced? Do the different elements line up where they are supposed to?

Lesson 3 – Considering Different Logos In Fours. Look at logos collected for homework. Choose two like best; Choose two like least. In books write down reasons for this. (5min)

Lesson 4 – Why Do We Use Images? On starter sheet – ‘Reasons for using the images’ In Pairs. Match the way images are used in your leaflets (h/wk) to reasons listed on sheet. Add name of leaflet on sheet next to reason. (5min)

Lesson 5 – Improving Images? Looking at four images on the board. Identify problem with each image then Suggest a solution to correct the image. (write in books) (5min)

Lesson 6 – Good Design in a Folded Leaflet. Using A4 Sheet choose one of the following:- Portrait sheet folded in half length ways; Landscape folded in half; Landscape folded in to three equal parts On the folded sheet plan out where you might place all the elements of your original leaflet. Remember principles of good design. (6min)
