Sertraline What is this leaflet for? This leaflet is to help you understand more about your medicine. Your medicine could look different to the pictures on this leaflet. Sertraline is also called Lustral. Sertraline is available as tablets. What is Sertraline used for? Sertraline is commonly used to treat depression. It is also used in: People having repetitive thoughts or behaviours People feeling tense or angry

Sertraline What will Sertraline do? Sertraline should help you feel calm and relaxed. It could take a few weeks for Sertraline to have its full effect. What are the side effects of Sertraline? Side effects are the unwanted effects of any medicine on the body. Not everyone taking a medicine will get side effects. Many side effects will go away with time. But some side effects may last for longer. Some side effects can be serious. You should tell your doctor if you have any side effect.

Sertraline Some side effects are more serious. You should tell someone straight away if… • you feel dizzy • you feel shaky • you have problems with passing water • you have a rash on your skin or your skin feels itchy. Other side effects of Sertraline can be… • feeling restless or cannot sit still • feeling sleepy or sluggish • feeling sick • having problems sleeping at night • having the ‘runs’ or needing the toilet a lot • dry mouth • headache • loss of interest in sex

Sertraline It is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy. It may be safer to use Fluoxetine during pregnancy. It is relatively safe to breast feed if you are using this medication. But the baby needs to be checked for side effects.

Sertraline How and when do I take Sertraline? The label on your Sertraline packet should tell you when and how much you should take. If you forget to take your medicine Tell your carer or doctor straight away. When to stop taking your Sertraline? You should carry on taking your medicine unless your doctor asks you to stop.

+ Sertraline Some medicines do not work well together. You should tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking. What should I not do while taking Sertraline? Drinking alcohol when you are on Sertraline could make you feel sleepy. Doctor’s comments +
