How Recycling Benefits You Uses less landfill space Keeps trash disposal costs down Uses less energy and materials Reduces the cost of products & utilities Recycling an aluminum can saves as much energy as a can full of gasoline. Reduces pollution

Not Just A Good Idea State Mandate –Mandatory Waste Reduction Goals Can only be met via recycling Report sent to the State in Spring 2015 –All other Illinois state universities have recycling programs UIC, UIUC, GSU, NIU, WIU, SIU, EIU, etc. CSU formerly had a recycling program This new program is designed to last

Basics of Recycling Single Stream Recycling Dumpsters –All recyclables go in the green dumpster –Trash goes in the other dumpster Use Clear or Blue Bags –No Black Bags! Change bags only when necessary

Paper / Cardboard Bond Paper (White & Colored) Computer Paper Calculator Tape Computer Paper Envelopes Junk Mail Legal Pad Paper Letterhead Magazines Newspaper Cardboard Containers Aluminum Cans Steel Cans Plastic Soup Container Bi-Metal Cans Water/Soda/Juice Bottles Detergent Bottles Microwave Trays Milk Jugs Plastics #1-#5 and #7

New Recycling Plan – Hallways / Open Areas Empty Only When Needed –Check Containers Daily Take out bags of paper when they are ½ – ¾ full –Bags may be heavy Take out bags of bottles & cans when necessary –Getting close to full –Liquid in bottom of the bag –Odors from the bag –Use your judgment

New Recycling Plan – Green Carts Carts are available –Basement / 1 st floor –Most buildings Use if needed –Not required –Only for recycling
