If your hometown had a recycling program… If you knew that Iowa State recycled before you came here… If you used the corrugated cardboard service for move in… If you’ve ever picked anything from the trash to recycle it… If you are excited to be a part of the recycling program this year…

Well, guess what…?

GRAND TOTAL 1, lbs collected in 5 weeks Imagine what we can do this academic year!

Your Wish is My Command Based on our trial data, we forecast that for the academic year we will total… 76,747 lbs!!!! Which equates to… - Almost 20 average size cars! million sheets of paper! - Over 450 people! - 25,582 pizzas!

You Put That Where?!?!

How do I know? Paper –Office and colored paper –Not newspaper Plastic containers –Non-redeemable bottles, cleaned food containers, plastic sacks with recycling logo Redeemables –Any plastic, aluminum or glass bottle/can with the IA 5 identification Wetboard –NOT corrugated cardboard

Resource Recovery Plant But Ames burns their trash… –The city of Ames is only able to burn about 65% of their trash for fuel –Most of the rest ends up in the landfill in Boone County Ames needs the trash for energy… –Ames has more than enough trash to provide energy for the city –If this wasn’t the case, how would Ames have enough trash during the summer for power? –The GreenHouse Group has met with the RRP and has their full support of our program

Ames Area Redemption Recycling –This business, located on Lincoln Way, is Ames’s only Recycling Center –Because of the current economic situation, Ames Area Redemption has decided to charge for the recycling service they supply –The only items accepted for free now are: Glass Corrugated cardboard Oil Redeemables (will get refunded like normal)

What does that mean? Due to the RRP and Ames Area Redemption, the program that the DoR offers is the only FREE recycling service for most recyclables for students living on campus!

Meetings The GreenHouse Group meetings are open to all recycling chairs and anyone interested in our group or recycling/sustainability Discussion of: –Ideas –Concerns –Questions –Projects –Events Next meeting: –Tuesday October 13, 8:00 p.m. Buchanan Hall (Room here)
