Green Building and Sustainable Design Made by: Lucas Ingalls Austin Nar Garrett Hanzak

Rainfall falls on most parcels of property throughout the world. Describe one method that could be used to collect this natural resources. Build a rain garden with native plants that absorb and filter storm water runoff Native plants absorb runoff and pollutants while attracting songbirds and butterflies Water from the roof and gutter is used to water the garden

Describe an innovative construction method or technique that benefits the environment. Use Adobe soil which is very abundant Made from sand, clay, and water Extremely durable

During the construction cycle of the building, materials and components are delivered to the site. List a strategy that you will use to recycle the waste produced during the construction phase Take waste materials to Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) to seperate materials to recycle and reuse materials such as wood, cardboard, and metals Materials are sorted by a combination of hand and machine sorting

Energy use is high in commercial buildings. What might a designer do to reduce energy consumption in a building? Geothermal Heat Pumps  Pumps water or antifreeze through deep ground  Air passes over pipes at ground level to absorb heat

Building sites offer natural resources that can be utilized for the life of the building. Describe a method to use a site's natural resources in the construction of the structure. “House in a Hill”  Dig out hill or use cliff  Use cliff-side or dug out hill as structural wall  Grounds structure and provides additional insulation
