ECOMM 2014 – 18 th European Conference on Mobility Management Florence – May 8, 2014 “SUPERHUB: a user centric approach to improve multimodal mobility” Marco Menichetti Fondazione Legambiente Innovazione

AGENDA - A new mobility concept - The SUPERHUB project - A user centric approach - A look inside SUPERHUB - Next steps

A NEW MOBILITY CONCEPT - the era of private cars is over; we need a better quality for our lives; - “ Urban Mobility Package ” adopted by the EC on December mobility is a right and a necessity; - let’s exploit heterogeneous and integrated transport modes!

SUPERHUB: THE PROJECT Keywords: - smart innovation; - people’s needs and wishes; - HUB (share, integrate and cooperate); - new ecosystem of mobility; - real-time and tailored info; - behaviour changes. Main goals: - open platform and Apps; - engage citizens; - provide support to urban mobility policies partners of 6 Countries - 3 pilot cities

SUPERHUB: INPUT AND OUTPUT Real-time and integrated mobility resources User preferences & needs Useful data to plan and simulate mobility policies User-tailored mobility services (e.g.: several route options) Environmental impact data - new sources of mobility data can be added when available - third-parties will be able to deploy mobility-related applications

SUPERHUB: THE RESEARCH Citizens and stakeholders are designing the App Anu needs to go to the hospital

SUPERHUB: THE RESEARCH Citizens and stakeholders are designing the App The SUPERHUB multi-modal journey planner works!

SUPERHUB: THE TRIALS 1 PLATFORM 6+ added value SERVICES 3 TRIALS: - more than 2,100 users already involved; participants to the 2° PILOT TEST (Aug. – Sept.2013) ; - around 3,000 volunteers for the 3° PILOT TEST (Oct. 2014): they’ll be “mobile sensors” of their own journeys.

SUPERHUB: THE ARCHITECTURE

TRAFFIC PREDICTION from cellular and social nets

SUPERHUB: FIRST INTEGRATED PROTOTYPE Features are available to the end-user through a multi-lingual Web User Interface and a Mobile App.

SUPERHUB: JOURNEY PLANNER Preferences: - use of transport modes - ownership of transport modes; - additional information on owned transport modes (e.g. model, type) - burdens (e.g. luggage, stroller) Recommendation criteria: - speed - costs - eco-footprint - duration - distance - physical effort

SUPERHUB: DISRUPTIVE EVENTS 75% of users like the screen shot showing disruptive events. Some additional options: - to report a source reliability issue; - real-time map with user comments about the event; - distinction between accidents regarding public transport and private vehicles; - to filter events only related our own journey.

SUPERHUB: SERIOUS GAMES Induction of behaviour changes - interactive games with an educational function; - new mobility experiences in a simulated environment “SUPERHUB art gallery” - features and advantages of the SUPERHUB App; - tips to mobility users;

SUPERHUB: AN HELP FOR MOBILITY POLICIES

SUPERHUB: ADDED VALUE SERVICES The opportunity: facilitate the development of new products and services - segmented by target: B2B; B2G; G2C - segmented by type of business: citizen; logistic; tourism; hospital …. Mobility Marketplace Mobility Planner Social Monitor Serious Game Journey planner Persuasive Services

SUPERHUB.ORG -> Open Mobility Data Platform The idea: collect, integrate and standardise Open Mobility Data and enable interoperability of systems/services. - Transport Operators - Transport Authorities - Commercial companies - Public Administrations - Foundations - Open Data harmonization & system availability - Continuous research development - Apps / Start-Up competition connected with sustainability, local growth and new service creation
