Kirkintilloch High School Student Planner

Parental Engagement We believe that pupils’ learning is improved when we work in Partnership with their parents/carers. We therefore believe in close cooperation with all parents/carers, and in regular consultation between the home and school. In order for you to be involved in your child’s learning further we would like to draw your attention to the diary system which we operate within Kirkintilloch High School. We hope that this will give you a better understanding of your child’s learning and how to support them. We would also appreciate it if you could sign the diary on a weekly basis.

How to use your planner The planner has been designed to help you to: Plan your work, homework and studying. Manage your time. Keep a record of your achievements, homework completed and class topics. Evaluate/‘traffic light’ your understanding of lessons. Encourage dialogue about your schooling between yourself and your parent/carer. You are expected to have your planner open at the correct date at the start of each lesson. Periodically, your registration teacher and guidance teacher will check you are making the best use of your planner.

Using your planner Traffic Lighting Each period you should detail the topic or work covered on the left hand page of your planner. Each evening you should review the work you have covered that day. If you completely understood the class work tick the green circle. If you are not 100% sure of the work covered tick the amber circle and remember to ask your teacher for help. If you did not understand the class work you should tick the red circle and ask the teacher to explain it next period.

Using your planner Each period you should detail ANY homework issued. Enter homework on the day that it is due. Enter the subject/ topic/ page or sheet in the space provided. Ask your parent/ carer to check it with you. Tick the Done column when it is complete.
