 Define the University’s strategic directions for  Intent:  setting current and future priorities  resource planning and allocation  program planning  review and refinement of academic missions  strategic planning by UNC constituent institutions and affiliated entities  reflect the University's deep commitment to help North Carolina respond to changing state needs and economic challenges PURPOSE

 Three committees:  UNC Advisory Committee on Strategic Directions  Composed of business, education and government leaders, along with selected Board members, Chancellors, and faculty leadership  Strategic Directions Committee  Chaired by Board of Governors member Fred Eshelman, includes selected General Administration Staff and UNC Chancellors  Faculty Advisory Council  Chaired by chair of Faculty Assembly Catherine Rigsby, includes selected faculty from UNC campuses PROCESS

Establish Degree Attainment Targets for North Carolina  Estimate the number of graduates needed in North Carolina  Determine the academic disciplines needed and ensure the University is meeting current and projected workforce demand 2. Strengthen Academic Quality  Produce quality students for the state’s workforce  Understand what skills are needed and then meet the demand 3. Serve the People of North Carolina  Understand how best to continue using University resources, including our faculty expertise, research, and service capacity to improve the lives of North Carolinians STRATEGIC PLANNING: FIVE GOALS

4. Maximize the University’s Efficiency  Continue to identify and act on specific opportunities for savings in academic and administrative areas 5. Ensure a Financially Stable and Accessible University  Increase the University’s capacity to secure external funding support and grow partnerships with the private sector STRATEGIC PLANNING: FIVE GOALS
