TOYS??? We don’t need them at school. They are a distraction and can get “misplaced.”

Here is what we will be learning in Math Reading Writing

Use phonics to decode unfamiliar words. Know common sight words appropriate to grade level. Apply fluency to improve comprehension. Understand differences between informational/expository text and literary/narrative text. SECOND GRADE ABSOLUTES IN READING All of the above, plus… Retell story sequence Make conclusions and give a response to reading. Predict and infer before, during, and after reading ABSOLUTE READING SKILLS

THIS IS WHAT SECOND GRADE SPELLING HOMEWORK LOOKS LIKE

SPELLING HOMEWORK Practice the words and send it in for a homework sticker. Keep the practice list and practice these words all week for a 100% A+ score on the test.

READING HOMEWORK You will get little books once or twice a week for homework. They will be 4-16 (!) pages. There will be a homework page stapled on back to return for a homework sticker. For a short video on how to help your children read their books go to Hood Canal School’s website and click on READ WITH YOUR KID.

READING HOMEWORK PAGE

MATH HOMEWORK Sometimes you will get math homework. Return to school for a homework sticker. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out the homework. Do what you can, but if you get stuck, just sign the homework and let us know what was confusing. Or call us at

NOW YOU’VE GOT OUR NUMBER… Make sure we have the best number to get hold of you. If your child won the lottery or fell off the bars, what would be the fastest way to contact you? Make sure your teacher and the office know this information.

LAST… We miss your child when s/he’s not here. Children need to be in class ON TIME to learn. We’ll do our best to be on time and ready for you, please do your best to get to school on time every day. Sometimes kids get sick. A fever or contagious sickness can’t be avoided. Call or come by for homework.
