New Reward System
Why Reward? Motivate. Encourage. Reinforce positive behaviours. Praise-scold ratio. Make students feel wanted.
Why Change? Student voicing. Staff voicing. New Ofsted criteria. Old systems have gone stale. Reward all students. New house system Term 6
What’s New? Web-based for staff, students and parents. Student ownership. Tailor own rewards. Linked to SIMS – achievement and attendance. No administration for staff.
How Does It Work? Students are given a sticker when they are rewarded. Each sticker has a unique code, that they enter onto the website.
What Happens Next? Students build up their reward points and can then spend them in two different ways: Tangible items We select these as a school and can put whatever we want in the online shop. Online buddy Students personalise an online character by buying items for them.
Online Buddy
Staff Website Every member of staff – teaching and non-teaching – has access to the website. Staff can: View all students’ points. Export data. Create competitions.
CompetitionsCompetitions Competitions can be created by any member of staff for: All students. Specific year groups. Mentor groups. Houses.
Task 1 - Competition In your faculties come up with a competition that will be created instantly. Decide: What the competition will be. How long you want it to run for. Who it will be for (all students or one year group). Is it a ‘raffle winner’ or ‘league table’. How many points are required. Who will enter it on the website.
What Next? Student assemblies. Usernames and passwords provided to students via mentors. Staff usernames: USERNAME: school address. PASSWORD: carrot (this can be changed). Log on and explore the site – it’s not scary! Stickers to departments.
Task 2 - Prizes We have some money for prizes, but not an infinite supply. What resources do you have in your departments that could be utilised for minimal or no cost? E.g. Tickets to performances Free entry to youth club Use of sports facilities at lunch Lunch Q-Jump
Big Push For this to be successful, ALL staff must drive it. Be generous! Create competitions for the different cohorts – be innovative! Get prizes – vouchers, 2 for 1, donations, etc.
Task 3 - Any Other Suggestions Before you go: Discuss as a department any other suggestions that could be utilised. Write any suggestions at the bottom of your sheet. Include any questions you have and I will respond by to the Subject Leader.
