Assignment #2: An example LIS 505

Disclaimer This example is not meant to overwhelm but to inform. We are posting this example of Assignment #2 to give you an idea of what we are looking for; we do not want to see carbon copies of this particular assignment. We have removed all but the final published references (you need to do your own research - your first assignment should provide an excellent resource for this assignment). You will see that the main diagram provides an overview of the functions within the library and shows the relationships between them (although there are many more that could be displayed). The breakdown diagrams provide greater detail and more information than in the overview diagram (this is what is meant by separate ‘pages’). They are still rather linear, however, and would benefit from the inclusion of more relationships. Note the use of color, shapes, and other features used to organize the concepts. Finally, the main decision points should be included in the overview diagram and not just in the breakdown ones (where the main decision points can be supplemented by more specific ones directly related to the function).

The Booktown Library

Booktown Library: About Us The Booktown Library is a small public library in a rural town. There are 7,000 cardholders, including children, young adult and adult. The community is made up of all ages, nationalities, income levels, and information needs. The staff size at the Booktown Library is about 17 employees, consisting of 4 full-time and 13 part-time staff members; including a director, an administrative assistant, 6 cleerks, 3 professional librarians, 3 technical services professionals, a children’s librarian (who coordinates children’s programming), an adult/young adult programmer, and a page.
