INTERDEPENDENT SYSTEMS

Interdependent Systems  SCV.04 explain how Scriptures can be used in analysing and critiquing personal and social situations.  PFV.03 explore ways Church teaching can help people understand contemporary ethical and moral issues as part of the discernment process.  CMV.03 apply a contemporary understanding of conscience to the process of conscience formation and moral decision-making;  CMV.05 apply Church teaching to contemporary ethical and moral issues.  FLV.03 apply related Church teaching to values and practices that promote or undermine relationships and the sacredness of life.  We will demonstrate how we live in a web of relationships which affect one another.

Interdependent Systems  From the text, Living Justice and Peace:  Read pages in the following chunks, responding to the pertinent questions (there are a couple of different editions of the textbook so some page references may not be exact; the subtitles should guide reading):  A Call to Put Faith into Action ; que. 1-3  Awareness: Friendship with the World ; que. 4-8  Analysis: Asking “Why?” ; que  Action: Bringing Life to the World ; que  Justice is a Journey -107

Interdependent Systems  From LJP, pages questions 1-20  Guides seeking justice:  Steps in faith in action cycle:  Awareness:  Worldview:  Experience & Culture:  Avoid being blind:  Love-centred worldview:  The above concepts tell us how we know what we know and why we might behave as we behave.

Interdependent Systems  From LJP, pages questions 1-20  Creation is interdependent:  Relationship maps show:  Social structure:  Root causes of social sin:  Power:  Power over vs. power with:  The above concepts tell us that we are affected not only by our decisions but the decisions of others.

Interdependent Systems  From LJP, pages questions 1-20  Direct action vs. social action:  Justice in solidarity:  Loving action and injustice:  Nonviolent non-cooperation:  The above concepts tell us that there are ways to advocate for the common good.

Interdependent Systems In interdependent systems we acknowledge that all spheres of our lives (SPIES) are connected and that a change in one area necessarily means change in the others. This is true for the web of relationships in which we live.  All domains of society (systems) interact to form a unified whole.  The goal of a healthy society is to find equilibrium within the systems that pursues loving relationships and the common good.  Healthy systems are characterised by a culture of justice/life; unhealthy systems are characterised by a culture of consumption/death.

Interdependent Systems In interdependent systems we acknowledge that all spheres of our lives (SPIES) are connected and that a change in one area necessarily means change in the others. This is true for the web of relationships in which we live.

Interdependent Systems  We can describe several systems:  Ecological: the natural world;  Ethical: codes of behaviour;  Physical: the material person/world;  Political: how communities organise & govern themselves;  Socio-economic: the relative wealth (social & financial) of people;  Theological: understanding God & our relationship with one another.

Interdependent Systems  In groups of 3, consider one of the case studies: 1. What is the impact on each of the systems? 2. Consider two possible outcomes for the situation and how each of the systems might be impacted? 3. Note your responses on chart-paper. 4. Prepare to share your responses with the class.

Interdependent Systems In interdependent systems we acknowledge that all spheres of our lives (SPIES) are connected and that a change in one area necessarily means change in the others. This is true for the web of relationships in which we live.
