13 Making an EUC application (7) Making the online application painless (f): Crucial step: Cannot be reversed ! Ask youself: Is this my final completed version of my EUC application? Am I sure that I won’t want to change this?  Click ‘submit’ button  Click ‘print’ button to print out final version that you have just submitted electronically.  Print out section E – ‘Endorsement’  Make 2 copies of final version & endorsement  Have all 2 copies signed by legal representative and stamped with official seal/stamp of institution.  Send 1 of copies to Executive Agency in Brussels and 1 to your National Agency.

14 Making an EUC application (8) Things you must do: How to submit a valid Erasmus University Charter application: 1 Submit the online application available on the homepage of the Executive Agency electronically before February 28th 2007, hours 2 Make a printout of the submitted online application 3 Ask the legal representative of your institution of higher education to sign two paper versions on section F 4 Send one duly signed paper copies with original signatures and original stamps or seals of the institution to the Executive Agency, Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, Unit P2 ERASMUS – JEAN MONNET, LLP - Erasmus University Charter, Av. du Bourget 1, BE-1140, Brussels, Belgium. This one paper copy must be sent to the Executive Agency not later than February 28th 2007 (date of postmark on the envelope not later than February 28th 2007)

16 Mobility can only be carried out if there are bilateral agreements between institutions of higher education No university fees for tution, examinations, access to laboratory facilities to be charged to incoming students EUC Implementation

17 The institution informs its Erasmus students and teachers of the terms and requirements for student and staff mobility and placement (Erasmus Student Charter) The institution complies with the regulations on mobility/placement set out in the contract between the institution and the National Agency

18 Quality issues The institution has agreed to make every effort to ensure high quality in organising Erasmus Student and Staff mobility/placement

26 EUC Part A Institutional profile: please provide all information Legal representative: the legal representative is the only person who can make a legal commitment of the institution; he/she will sign all financial agreements/contracts with Commission/NA

30 What is a one-tier degree? “a one-level degree structure (one-tier or one- cycle), where the single programme of study results in a final (masters-level) award. It should be compared/opposed to the two-tier degree structure, which offers a shorter degree programme and a choice of post-graduate programmes For most countries the one-tier (= one-cycle) system is the existing system before the changes introduced by the application of the Bologna system: two-tier (= two-cycle) degrees; which is not yet fully implemented in all subject areas in all countries.” European Commission

31 What is a PhD without Thesis? “In a number of countries there are several kind of third cycle courses not leading to a PhD Examples are the "specialisation courses" you may find in various faculties here and there. I know and may directly refer to cases in Italy but I am sure there are many other cases around Europe” European Commission

35 EUC Purpose: institutionalised approach The EPS contains the overall cooperation strategy the institution has developed and is going to implement; it sets out the strategy and the planning that the institution underlies to all its LLP cooperation plans

36 EUC Issues to be addressed in the EPS The role of international and European co-operation in the institution’s strategic development plan e.g. innovation and development of the institution’s teaching and/or research areas

37 EUC Future development plans for European/international co-operation in mobility, curriculum development, networks How do the plans relate to results achieved so far in European co- operation

38 EUC Quality control and evaluation of participation in European programmes Internationalisation of administrative staff, teachers and students Measures to ensure the full recognition of study periods abraod

43 Your application will be rejected:  If you use the print screen option  If you submit an application where in the footnote it says “Draft”

44 Institution is not eligible for participation If parts of the application are missing If parts of the EPS are missing No original signature of legal representative (electronic signature NOT valid!)

47 The answers to the three questions in the EPS are extremely short/very vague Some componets of the EPS questions are not answered (e.g. « how has the EPS been developed?) No information is given concerning how the institution ensures high quality in student and staff mobility (and student placement) and in Erasmus cooperation projects

48 The institution does not have a clear strategy The institution has no implementation mechanism for the intended European activities The institution is not committed to European cooperation within ERASMUS

49 The institution is not at all interested in introducing ECTS and does not guarantee academic recognition of study periods abroad No references at all are made to any of the European issues (Bologna process, ECTS, quality control, new information and communication technologies,life long learning, equal opportunities etc.)
