You are on a committee that must decide whether or not the school colors at John Hersey High School should remain orange and brown or be altered. What would be your decision? STEPS 1 & 2 - Understand & Keywords

STEP 3: Brainstorm While serving on a committee to decide on the Hersey school colors, I would declare that a new color scheme is a necessity. While many believe that Hersey’s school colors are suitably stylish, it is my belief that the colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. If on a committee to determine the school colors at Hersey, I would oppose any changes. Thesis: While many believe that Hersey’s school colors are suitably stylish, it is my belief that the colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. Attention-Getter: Legend has it that Hersey came about its school colors because the first principal loved the Cleveland Browns, whose pro football colors were and still are orange and brown. The colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. Attention Getter Connector Statement Summary A C T S Opening….

While many believe that Hersey’s school colors are suitably stylish, it is my belief that the colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. Legend has it that Hersey came about the colors of orange and brown because the first principal loved the Cleveland Browns. This idea apparently met no substantial opposition, so these archaic colors became our school’s tasteless trademark. This reality becomes clear when one realizes that orange and brown are old colors coming from the 1960’s, brown is the color of most undesirable dirt, and orange is the call color of construction signs. Putting It All Together Legend has it that Hersey came about the colors of orange and brown because the first principal loved the Cleveland Browns. This idea apparently met no substantial opposition, so these archaic colors became our school’s tasteless trademark. While many believe that Hersey’s school colors are perfectly fashionable, it is my belief that the colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. This reality becomes clear when one realizes that orange and brown are old colors coming from the 1960’s, brown is the color of most undesirable dirt, and orange is the call color of construction signs.

The Cleveland Browns may be a famous football team, but the not-so-fabulous fashion faux pas of Hersey’s first fearless leader are nothing more than infamous. After exemplifying the old age of the brown and orange colors, brown’s undesirable dirtiness, and orange’s cry of construction, it is my belief that while many believe that Hersey’s school colors are suitably stylish, the colors orange and brown are no longer fashionable for Hersey High School. Hersey is one of our nation’s finest public high schools. Our young and sophisticated students should not have to pay for the dress-up disasters of an era long since passed. S T A C
