This year’s conference will address the amplification of risk and change in capital projects and provide tools and strategies to navigate our industry toward success.

Conference Theme Turbulence creates Leaders with Perspective, Insights and Wisdom The need for Risk and Change demands new strategies for success.

WorkFace Planning is: The systemic application of proven construction practices that enable productive activity. Detailed Work Plans Qualified Planners Removal of Constraints So What is different? This logic is not new, but it is also not common

WorkFace Planning gives you: Improved Construction Productivity Reduced Schedule Up to 10% reduction in TIC Predictability

There will be a Rainbow after this storm The Perfect Storm There will be a Rainbow after this storm

The new industry leaders will have a new strategy for success The Perfect Storm The new industry leaders will have a new strategy for success

The criteria for this content was developed by analyzing exactly what did the Foreman in the field need to execute work. All of the components listed here have to be in place before the work can get done. We can either give it to the foremen or let them to figure it out. On the left side we have a traditional model for Planning and doing the work. The Superintendent , General Foreman and Forman plan the work and then the Foremen and tradesmen execute the work. During our research we found organisations that had an extra person in this loop. Most often it was an apprentice or a tradesman on light duty. This person would be an assistant for the general foreman. In the model for WorkFace Planning we developed this position with job descriptions and a training program that took former trade supervisors and gave then planning and computer skills. The process of creating this new demographic of planners is one area where we have been very successful. Next slide Foreman Foreman Foreman GR

The problem now is how do we feed these guys information? And this is where we migrate across the fuzzy boarder between WorkFace Planning and Lean Construction. All of this stuff on the left are the streams of information that we need to feed to the planners. On our most successful projects we did this by using 3D WorkFace Planning software, like Bentley’s ConstructSim, Intergraph’s construction or the Aveva product. We then hired computer geeks to clean up the data so that it could be meaningful to the planners. In the world of information management we now understand that information needs to progress from Data to Information to Knowledge and finally to Understanding . This is not a natural evolution and it takes design and effort to make it happen. Next slide Construction Work Packages Progress Material Received Insight-WFP © Insight-wfp.inc 2009
