FIRST THINGS FIRST THANK YOU FOR GIVING UP YOUR TIME TO HELP OUR STUDENTS. EVERY COACH APPRECIATED YOUR EFFORTS!

PLEASE ARRIVE MINUTES EARLY FOR YOUR ROUND. THIS ALLOWS US TO CHECK YOU IN, ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. IT ALLOWS YOU TO FIND YOUR ROOM AND GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE. CHECK IN AT THE JUDGE’S TABLE

YOU WILL RECEIVE A BALLOT AND A ROOM ASSIGNMENT. HANDBOOKS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.

ON THE BOARD AFF B-1 JIM AS THEY COME IN, STUDENTS WILL WRITE THEIR CODE IN THE CORRECT SPOT ON THE BOARD. DEBATERS ALSO USUALLY PUT NAMES. NEG D-3 SARA

TRANSFER THEIR CODE AND POSITION TO YOUR BALLOT-CODES MAY BE ENTERED. BALLOTS MAY LOOK DIFFERENT.

IF YOU JUDGE LD THERE ARE TWO FLIGHTS. TWO STUDENTS WILL DEBATE FOR 30 MINUTES, THEN TWO MORE WILL FOLLOW. PLEASE STAY FOR BOTH DEBATES!

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TOPICS ARE CHOSEN FOR THE DEBATERS, AS WELL AS SIDES. PLEASE JUDGE THE DEBATE AS PRESENTED, NOT ON YOUR PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE, FEELINGS, OR EXPERIENCE. IF ONE SIDE HAS ISSUES THAT YOU NOTICE BUT THEIR OPPONENT IGNORES, IT CANNOT AFFECT YOUR DECISION.

A PHILOSOPHICAL DEBATE (VALUE) AFF MUST DEFEND THE RESOLUTION BASED ON A PRINCIPLE (FREEDOM, JUSTICE) NEG MUST REFUTE THE RESOLUTION BASED ON A PRINCIPLE (SOCIAL CONTRACT, FREEDOM) BOTH SIDES ARE REQUIRED TO ATTACK THE OTHER’S CASE (CLASH) WINNER UPHOLDS THEIR VALUE AND TAKES OUT THE OPPONENT’S VALUE

A POLICY DEBATE AFF MUST PRESENT A PLAN TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM PRESENTED NEG MUST SHOW THE PLAN DOES NOT WORK OR CAUSES TOO MUCH HARM. EACH SPEAKER IS RATED AS AN INDIVIDUAL DEBATERS MUST USE THE BASIC STOCK ISSUES TO ARGUE AND REFUTE. DEBATERS SHOULD ID STOCK ISSUES AND TIE THEIR ARGUMENTS TO THEM.

THREE CATEGORIES -ANALYSIS, REASONING AND EVIDENCE -CLASH AND REFUTATION -ORGANIZATION AND DELIVERY SPEAKER POINTS ARE ON PERFORMANCE NOT NECESSARILY WHO WINS. SCALE REMEMBER ANYTHING BELOW 6 EQUATES TO HALF EFFORT. LPW-A POOR SPEAKER OUTDEBATES A BETTER SPEAKER.

AS WITH THE IE’S-FILL OUT COMMENTS-WHY THE WINNER WON. FILL IN AND ADD SPEAKER POINTS. CIRCLE THE WINNER AND THE LPW (IF APPLICABLE) ON THE BOTTOM THEN SIGN. IF YOU NEED TIME AFTER TO WRITE COMMENTS, PLEASE TURN IN THE PINK SHEET TO THE JUDGE’S TABLE WITH THE DECISION-THEN GO TO JUDGE’S ROOM FOR COMMENTS.
