My Department's guidance, which was launched to the public in 2003, deals with the complex, high level, legal aspects of data sharing. I now believe that we need to build on this and that front line practitioners need a tool that will complement the Guidance, a tool that will take them through the operational process for identification of enabling legislation and application of the Data Protection Act in specific scenarios. FAME has produced some excellent products, which my Department will be looking very closely at. The school of thought adopted by the FAME project, works on the premise that in the case of a majority of data sharing cases there is sufficient enabling legislation available.” David Johnstone, Director of Social Services, Devon County Council, Chair of the ADSS Standards and Performance Committee “The FAME National Project provides Local Authorities with key tools for implementing multi ‑ agency working. Every Agency is facing a real challenge in implementing the processes and the technology needed to co-ordinate their work with other agencies in helping the most vulnerable members of our society. This is particularly the case in view of upcoming legislation such as the Children Bill which places a specific duty of care on Local Authorities to manage multi-agency environments and with the importance of interfacing with NPfIT. By providing a framework which has been shown to be effective, FAME is showing the way to remove many of the uncertainties involved in addressing that challenge. The work to date by the FAME strands has shown that properly implemented multi-agency working can deliver tangible benefits to the practitioners, the agencies and the service users.”
