Who We Are Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger relief organization that distributes donated, purchased, and prepared foods through a network of 260 Member Agencies, utilizing 917 feeding programs across 13 North Texas counties. The NTFB supports the nutritional needs of children, families and seniors through education, advocacy and strategic partnerships. Who We Serve Our programs include food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, after-school centers and senior citizen programs, and Food Stamp Outreach. Each month, Member Agencies distribute food to more than 50,000 families. On-site meal programs serve 435,000 meals/snacks each month. Our Campaign Close the Gap is the NTFB’s 3-year initiative to unite the community to narrow the food gap by providing access to 50 million meals annually. Last year, 26 million meals were distributed.

Feeding Children Program Description: Children receive nutritious food from North Texas Food Bank Member Agencies through a variety of programs. Each year 46.5% of the North Texas Food Bank’s resources are committed to programs feeding children. Over 80% of the children we feed are fed through pantries. Approximately 45,000 children receive over 1,100,000 meals each month as outlined below: Food pantries serve over 38,000 children Shelters and supplemental programs serve over 150,000 meals and snacks to children The Food 4 Kids backpack program serves 4,100 children weekly during the school year Kids Cafes serve 1,000 children 2-3 meals per week during the school year Summer feeding programs serve daily meals to 1,000 children Fiscal 2009 Feeding Children costs: $ 5,859,900 “Your support allows us to empower our parents and students to have nutritious food. Feeding Families Every dollar donated to the North Texas Food Bank provides five meals for the hungry. Out of every dollar donated, 97 cents goes directly to hunger relief programs. Program Description: Families receive services from North Texas Food Bank Member Agencies, through a variety of programs. Each year, 44 % of the North Texas Food Bank’s resources are committed to feeding Families. Approximately 45,000 families receive over 1,500,000 meals each month as outlined below: Food Pantries serve over 43,000 families each month Shelters and supplemental programs provide approximately 250,000 meals and snacks monthly to families each month NTFB Food Stamp outreach efforts enroll 190 families each month Fiscal 2009 Feeding Family costs: $ 5,552,943

Feeding Seniors Program Description: Seniors receive services from North Texas Food Bank Member Agencies through a variety of programs. Each year, over 9% of the North Texas Food Bank’s resources are committed to feeding seniors. Approximately 17,500 seniors receive over 275,000 meals per month as outlined below: Food Pantries serve over 9,000 seniors each month Shelters and supplemental programs provide over 50,000 meals and snacks for seniors each month The CSFP program delivers 7,500 commodity food boxes to seniors each month in Dallas County Fiscal 2009 Feeding Seniors costs: $ 1,185,157 A member of Feeding America, the NTFB is ranked as one of the top nonprofit organizations in Dallas/Fort Worth and has received a Four- Star Rating from Charity Navigator for two consecutive years (2007 and 2008).

Employee & Client Engagement Employee & Corporate Giving Campaign Drive Host a Close the Gap campaign to raise funds and create awareness on the issue of hunger. Canned Food Drive Host an on-site canned food drive benefiting the Food Bank. Employee/Family Volunteer Event at the Food Bank Warehouse Employees and their families can sort incoming food donations Monday through Friday or on select Service Saturdays. If serving in the Community Kitchen, employees will help Chef James Williams prepare meals for use by Member Agencies. Serving U Serving U is a first-class, experience-based, team-building course conducted at the North Texas Food Bank’s distribution facility. The program is designed to help key executive and departmental personnel sharpen their communication and teamwork skills – while serving a larger purpose.

Special Events DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears. The event will feature over 20 chef stations, two incredible bands, a unique raffle, exciting live and silent auctions, and over 750 anticipated guests rubbing shoulders with current and former Dallas Cowboys. 100% of funds raised will benefit the NTFB’s Feeding Kids initiative. TNFL will be held in April in Empty Bowls is an annual downtown Dallas luncheon combining delicious cuisine with handmade art—all to benefit the North Texas Food Bank’s hunger relief efforts. Guests enjoy the soups, breads and desserts provided by more than twenty select restaurants, and go home with a hand-crafted bowl created by an area artisan. While savoring the luncheon delicacies, Young Strings of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra entertain in the beautiful atrium of the Meyerson Symphony Center. The February 20, 2009 event will attract individuals from across the Metroplex, and especially from the downtown professional community. Taste of the NFL is the ultimate Dallas Cowboys tailgate party. This high-profile event benefiting the North Texas Food Bank includes former and current Dallas Cowboys Players, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and Dallas Desperados Dancers. This signature tailgate party is hosted by Abacus Executive Chef, Kent Rathbun and Dallas Cowboys players

According to the U.S. Census, there are over one half million people living at or below the poverty line in our North Texas Service Area. We have analyzed the need for food in this population and determined that there is a gap between what we are currently providing and what is actually needed to meet the nutritional needs.
