An organization that works to fight premature births. CKI members can help by participating in a March for Babies Walks in the spring or donating funds all year round. The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and infant health. The organization was founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, although, it was originally known as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. To help the cause of the March of Dimes, it is important to first educate yourself and then spread the word. Give to the cause monetarily or volunteer at various projects. Possible projects include: helping in a neonatal intensive care unit, assist in March for Babies walks, and engaging in letter campaigns. Students Team Up To Fight Hunger (STUFH) is a non-profit organization devoted to assisting and inspiring food drives at colleges and universities across the country. The mission of STUFH is to help feed the hungry while at the same time raising awareness among college students about hunger in their local communities. STUFH had its roots in the end-of-year food drive, where college students preparing to leave campus for the summer could donate any unused food rather than discarding it. Since its founding in 1999, STUFH has reported over five million pounds of food raised by colleges throughout the nation through various types of food drives. In the past year, STUFH involved more universities in the fight against hunger and has sponsored innovative food drives including STUFH THE BUS and food fight competitions. STUFH is also proud of its continuing partnership with Circle K International (CKI) with clubs on 450 campuses. Thousands of CKI college students are dedicated to community service and to fighting hunger. STUFH invites colleges and food banks to send their comments, food drive results and photos to our website to inspire other universities to become involved. The United Nations Children’s Fund otherwise known as UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. We have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. That makes us unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future. We promote girls’ education – ensuring that they complete primary education as a minimum – because it benefits all children, both girls and boys. Girls who are educated grow up to become better thinkers, better citizens, and better parents to their own children. We act so that all children are immunized against common childhood diseases, and are well nourished, because it is wrong for a child to suffer or die from a preventable illness. UNICEF and its partners have combated maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) across the globe through education, outreach, and mass immunization drives. In addition to delivering tetanus vaccines to even the remotest areas by any means necessary — including on horseback and even on foot — UNICEF has trained traditional midwives and birth attendants in safe birthing practices and distributed safe birthing kits. To help stem the tide of MNT, UNICEF has also supported prenatal care and a wide range of other maternal and newborn health services. Since 1999, UNICEF and its partners have immunized nearly 100 million women in 50 countries with two or more doses of the vaccine and have eliminated the disease in 35 countries. Countries that have recently validated the elimination of MNT include Turkey, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. MNT still remains a deadly threat in 24 countries. We were founded in 2002 by three friends from the University of Notre Dame who started selling textbooks online to earn some money, and ended up forming a pioneering social enterprise — a business with a mission to promote literacy. We’re not a traditional company with an add-on “cause” component. Social and environmental responsibility is at the core of our business. You could say it's in our DNA. We’re breaking new ground in online bookselling. We believe that education and access to books are basic human rights. That's why books sold on BetterWorldBooks.com help fund high-impact literacy projects in the United States and around the world. That's why we commit to matching every purchase on our website with a book donation to someone in need - Book for Book™Book for Book Potential Projects: Campus Book Drive Program Campus Book Drive Program Host a Drop Box Host a Drop Box Purchase textbooks from Better World Book!
