What is the objective? Flag Football is an invasion sport. Invasion games have teams trying to advance in one direction, while protecting their own goal. Similar sports are soccer, basketball, rugby, and Ultimate Frisbee Your objective is to move the football down the field and score a touchdown in the opponents end zone. Your team will try to stop your opponents from doing the same.

Your team has possession OFFENSE Your team has possession of the football.

Offensive Positions Quarterback (QB)- Makes the play happen by throwing the ball, handing it off, or running with it. Wide Receiver (WR)- Catches a pass, usually from the QB. Running back (RB)- Gets a handoff from the QB and runs with the ball or receives a short pass. Offensive Guards (G)- Protects the person with the ball (usually the QB). Center (C)- Hikes/snaps the ball to the quarterback. He/she also protects the person with the ball.

Offensive Line Formation RB RB QB WR G C G WR

DEFENSE Your team does not have the ball. You are defending your end zone and trying to stop the offense from getting points.

Defensive Positions Safety (S)- Watches the QB and trys to stop the play from happening. The last line of defense. Cornerback (CB)- Covers the WR to prevent him/her from catching the ball. Pulls the flags of the opponent with the ball. Linebacker (LB)- Covers the RB to prevent the short pass. Pulls the RB’s flags on a running play. Nose Guard (NG)- Lines up against the center. Rushes & pulls the flags of the person with the ball (usually the QB). Defensive Line (DL) - Rushes & pulls the flags of the person with the ball (usually the QB).

The nuts and bolts Your team moves down the field by either running the football, or passing the football. Your team will keep the football as long as you make a first down. You have 4 attempts to make a first down. (1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down, 4th down) On the 4th down, if you are on your half of the field, you should punt the ball to the other team. If you are on your opponents side of the field, you should go for a 1st down. Know if you don’t get a 1st down, the opponents get the ball at that spot.

Kick-off and Touchdown The game is started with a kick-off. The receiving team shows the other team they are ready by raising their arms before the kick. After every touchdown, the scoring team will kick-off to the other team. You can score a touchdown by catching the football in the end zone, or running it in. A touchdown is worth 6 points.
