LIBREVILLE, GABON IS A SMALL COUNTRY IN AFRICA.

 Capital : Libreville  1940: Portuguese arrive in what is now known as Gabon, a small country in Africa.  1910: Gabon becomes part of French Equatorial Africa.  1958:Gabon votes to become autonomous republic in the French Community  1960: Gabon becomes independent.

 1961: Leon Mba is elected President  1967: After Leon Mba dies Omar Bongo becomes president.  Omar Bongo has been president for over 40.  He died Monday June 8 th 2009  Money used : Franc CFA (FCFA )

The ‘’Moukoukwe’’ is an historical figure. He is a spirit, under his costume there is absolutely nothing. He makes appearences across the city. There are 4 different types of ‘ Moukoukwes’, a lot of people are afraid of it.

 The Official language in Gabon is French it is also the medium of instruction.  The Gabonese government sponsored research on the Bantu languages starting in the 1970s, and may possibly use some of them in instruction.  The three largest languages are Fang, Miene, and Bateke(Eshira), each with about 25-30% of the speakers.

There is a lot of different types of Food in Gabon. Most common are traditional plates such as Banana ( plaintain ) with ‘’ Feuilles de Manioc ‘’ or “ Nyembwe “. Wines are made from palm trees and sugarcane. The palm wine, in conjunction with a hallucinogenic root called eboga, is used during ceremonies for death, healing, and initiation.

Gabonese has a diversity of music types. The history of modern Gabonese music did not begin until about 1974, when the blind guitarist and singer Pierre Akendengue released his first album. He was classically trained in Europe, and his compositions reflect the influence of Western Classical Music. Patience Dabany and Oliver Ngoma are the ones that are really known.
