History What is Nike? Is the worlds most leading supplier of athletic shoes, apparel, and sporting equipment. Foundersand Foundation Founded in January 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Philip Knight. Initially operated as a distributor for Japanese shoe maker Onitsuka Tiger. Opened its first retail store in Santa Monica, Ca in , partnership with Tiger fell apart. BRS prepared to launch there own line of footwear, which presented the swoosh logo designed by Carolyn Davidson. 1971, the first shoe came out to the public, was a soccer shoe named Nike. Company became Nike Inc, in 1978, after the Greek goddess victory. 1988, Nike ad campaign came out with not the famous slogan of “ Just Do it.”
