Our Musicians

The Instructional Program In-school classes twice per 6 day rotation Curricular division wide rehearsals once per week Multiple school & public performances Extra curricular music jazz band & pep band

Beginner Band Recruitment begins in June for all grade 4 students. Beginner band in-school classes start in September for grade 5 students. Older students may choose to join. Students gather as a full band 3-4 times per year for concerts. Instruction includes all brass, woodwind and percussion instruments (strings with special permission). Adults/parents are encouraged to participate with child. Educational Assistants participate in the program with their designated learner. Home school students actively participate. 50 Members

Advanced Band Students enrolled in advanced band are in grades 6-8. Students are bussed to Clavet for division rehearsals every Wednesday from 4:30-6:00pm. Adult/parent enrollment is encouraged. Home school students actively involved in the program. High school students participate in this level to learn a 2 nd instrument. 48 Members

Senior Band Students enrolled in senior band are in grades 9-12 (grade 8 students may audition or be invited into the group by recommendation from director). Senior band students are bussed to Clavet for division rehearsals every Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm. Adult/parent members participate. The group continues to draw musicians from alumni & adult community members from Saskatoon; as well as home school students. 43 Members

Jazz Band There are 2 levels of extra curricular jazz band; junior & senior. All rehearsals are located at Clavet. Junior jazz is an introductory level that rehearses the 1 st Monday of every month from 7-9:00pm. Students in grade are eligible to join. Senior jazz is an auditioned group for students from grades 8-12 that rehearses the 2 nd, 3 rd & 4 th Mondays of the month. The group rehearses from 7- 9:00pm. Adult/parents welcome to join. 15 Senior Jazz & 9 Junior Jazz

Pep Band Pep band is an extra curricular band that is offered during football season. Pep band has travelled to Hanley & Clavet to perform at the football games. This band does not run every year; only on demand.

School & Public Performances Regina Optimist Band Festival Watrous Local Music Festival Alberta Band Festival Red Deer College Alberta Tour Leduc & Edmonton Calgary & Banff Tour Sask. Valley SD Tour – Warman, Rosthern, Hepburn, Leask & Blaine Lake Other performances include local seasonal concerts, parades, carol festivals, Division farewell to SESD & Director of Education, The Bay – promotional event, and coming up in April 25-28, 2007 – Vancouver, B.C.

Accolades Division Advanced band performed for the Honorable Lieutenant Governor Linda Haverstock at Clavet School in Division Senior Band performed for the opening ceremonies of the SSTA Conference -- November 24,2003 at Centennial Auditorium. Division Jazz Band performed for the LEADS Superannuation Banquet and the Saskatchewan Association of School Councils Conference at the Bessborough Hotel in Jazz Band fundraiser for 2005 – OKTOBERFEST – dinner & dance with German Concordia Band at the Manhattan Ballroom. Jazz Band fundraiser for 2006 – NORDICFEST – dinner & dance with German Concordia Band at the Odeon Events Centre. Annual Band Retreat held at Clavet school draws 10 music professionals to work with our students. Annual In-Division Tour in May – Advanced, Senior & Jazz bands perform in each school to highlight accomplishments & promote the program. Senior Band students have auditioned and been selected for the Provincial Honor Band held during the SMEA conference annually. Senior Band students have been selected for the U of S Honor Band held in January annually. Saskatchewan School Trustee Association Convention --November 24, 2003 OKTOBERFEST 2005
