The fundamental rights and truths We hold these truths to be self-evident We believe these things are obviously true, even without argument that all men are created equal that all people are born equal that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that God has given people certain rights that cannot be taken away

More on the rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and some of these rights are the right to live, the right to be free, and the right to try to be happy

In addition to the rights, we believe these too are obvious: That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed That in order to protect their rights and keep them, people develop governments, and those governments get their power from the people they rule. Those people give them that permission to rule.

People’s right to protect themselves That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, When any government begins to destroy people’s rights, the people have the right to change or end it,

End of the first sentence and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. and if these people end that government, they can begin a new one, and they can build that new one in a way that seems most likely to make them safe and happy.

Changing governments is a big deal. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; Wise caution says that governments that have been in place for a long time should not be changed for small reasons;

People hesitate to change governments and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. experience shows that people are more likely to suffer if they can bear it, rather than fix their situation by eliminating something they are used to.

But if a destructive pattern emerges … But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism But when a lot of mistreatment and subversions of authority emerge, and those mistreatments are trying to accomplish a particular goal, and that goal is to bring a group of people under the rule of a tyrant...

Some changes should be made it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. it is the right and duty of the people to get rid of that government and to come up with a new one for the future.

The situation of the colonies Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies This description is exactly what the colonies have put up with patiently and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. and that describes how it is necessary for the colonies to change their system of government.

King George is making a power-grab The history of the present King of Great Britain [George III] is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations The King’s track record shows he has constantly harmed the people of the colonies all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. in order to rule with absolute power over them.
