Education Theorist techniques Lev Vygotsky In this presentation, I will be posing as the educational theorist Lev Vygotsky. I will use his techniques to correlate it to dance education. The three theories used are: Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) More Knowledgeable Other (MKO) Sociocultural Theory
Zone of Proximal Development The idea that skills are too difficult for a student to master on their own, so they receive guidance and encouragement from a more knowledgeable other.
Zone of Proximal Development
More Knowledgeable Other Someone who has a better understanding or higher quality of learning than the learner.
Sociocultural Theory The important contributions that society makes to individual development. A child cannot separate their learning from their environment. Parents, caregivers, peers and the culture at large were responsible for the development of higher order functions in students.
Professional Activities The purpose of this video is to encourage dance educators to continue being a positive example of a More Knowledgeable Other and to inform them of their roles in students learning.
