Geography National 5

Geography National 5

Geography National 5 What is a ?? Biofuels are fuels made from plants. Crops are grown to produce biofuels. In Kerala, the main biofuel crops are jatropha and sugar cane.

Geography National 5 Disadvantages: -If more land is used for sugarcane then there is less food grown (around one quarter of people in India do not have enough food). -Sugarcane and jatropha use a lot of water. -Trees have been but down to make room, meaning more greenhouse gases and soil erosion. -Expensive to make.

Geography National 5

Geography National 5 Advantages -It reduces the amount of and cost of oil that India has to import. -Using biofuels should reduce the cost of fuel. This should in turn help industries, so factories can employ more people who will then have a higher standard of living. -Burning biofuels put fewer greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
