CELEBRATING YEARS 1998 – County Council began discussions on building a new library. Jan – Council purchased the former site of Carolinas Hospital System. Aug – Council ordered the old building on property torn down. May 2001 – Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation pledged $10 million to library construction. Aug – Basic design was unveiled to the public. Wednesday, October 23 rd, 2002 – County, foundation officials, along with students and residents celebrated the groundbreaking with a ceremony. CELEBRATING YEARS
October 2002 – June 2004 – The library was originally scheduled to be completed February 2004, but construction lasted until June. CELEBRATING YEARS
Thursday, May 6 th, 2004 – With the library construction nearing completion, the Friends of the library offered a glimpse inside the building for the first time. CELEBRATING YEARS
Sunday, June 6 th, 2004 – Florence residents are welcomed to tour the completed facility at the ribbon cutting ceremony with guest speaker Gov. Mark Sanford. CELEBRATING YEARS

Sunday, October 16 th, 2011 CELEBRATING YEARS Construction began July 2011, and the gallery opened October 16 th, The gallery is named in the memory of the late Dr. N. Lee Morris, former chief of the medical staff for Florence General Hospital. It was made possible through a generous donation by his wife, Mrs. Sandra Morris. The collection was made possible through a large art donation by artist Carol Mulholland and her husband, the late Ralph Attanasio of Florence, SC, as well as contributions by Jack and Cathy Dowis.
