Alarmline Linear Heat Detection For Storage Tank Protection

What is Linear Heat Detection? Continuous heat detector in the form of a cable - Alarmline Analogue: averaging heat detector - Alarmline Digital: fixed temperature heat detector

Alarmline Applications Heavy industry Warehousing & Freezer Stores Storage tanks Conveyors and escalators Cable trays Floor & ceiling voids Tunnels Car parks

Floating Roof Storage Tanks Install near primary & weather rim seals. Use Intrinsic Safety Barriers for Hazardous related applications

Alarmline LHD - Wide range of temperature settings. - Wide range of casings & braiding for mechanical and chemical resistance. - Operating range -65º to +200º C - Unaffected by operating environment (Dirt, Dust, Humidity & UV). - Easy to install - Simple to maintain

Analogue LHD Cable Definition: - Multi-conductor cable containing insulators whose insulation resistance varies proportionately to changes in temperature - Re-settable, provided the temperature does not exceed the burn-off point of PVC coating - Alarm temperature is adjusted and set at the controller. - Allows testing without damaging cable

Alarmline Analogue LHD Cables High temperature PVC - standard applications. Nylon extruded - increased chemical resistance. Bronze braided over standard high temperature PVC cable - increased mechanical protection Stainless Steel braided over nylon extruded cable - increased mechanical and chemical resistance.

AlarmLine Construction 4 conductor 0.5 mm diameter copper cable Two conductors for heat sensing Two conductors for continuity monitoring Twisted at 30 turns per foot to cancel potentially high voltage inductance

How Does AlarmLine Work? Sensor cable has negative temperature coefficient insulation Temperature increase lowers cable resistance exponentially PROTECTIVE INSULATION HIGH TEMPERATURE PVC SENSOR COPPER CONDUCTOR WIRE NEGATIVE TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT (NTC)

Alarmline LHD 4 Controller - Alarm temperature setting adjusted via moveable link. - Open circuit and closed circuit cable fault monitoring. - Direct connection to conventional fire alarm panels (2 wire connection). - Volt-free Fire & Fault relay option for interfacing to other control systems. - Eurocard 19” rack option.

Intrinsic Safety Barriers For Class 1, Div 1, Groups A, B, C, D classified areas Each IS Barrier handles two conductors Use two IS Barriers per sensor cable Use enclosure to insure correct grounding Safe area Hazardous area Alarmline Controller Junction Box IS Barrier

Typical Conventional Application Kidde Control Panel Hazardous Area Junction Box Standard 2 core cable 4 core cables AlarmLine Sensor 2 Wire Interface Module Max (1,000 m) 2 x I.S. Barriers

Digital LHD Cable Definition: - A cable which contains an insulator which melts at a specific temperature - Switch output provided when alarm temperature is reached - Not re-settable. - Operating range -65º to +200º C

Alarmline Digital LHD Cables Polythene braid 155º F (68º C) Nylon over sheath 155º F (68º C) Polythene braid 185º F (85º C) Nylon over sheath 185º (85º C) PVC 221º F (105º C) PVC 345º F (174º C) Fluoropolymer 440º F (227º C) Internal Internal / External / Chemical Internal / External

Alarmline Nomogram - Mark the Max Temperature - Select the sensor cable length being used (D)100m - Mark the Max Temperature where an alarm must not be given (B) 45 degrees - Draw a line from point on “D” through point on “B” to the switch setting line (A). This is the switch setting that will not give a false alarm at the Max ambient temperature.

Alarmline Nomogram -In the event of a hot spot occurring, it can be shown how hot this would need to be to give an alarm for a given length - 10 metre length = 83 degrees - 1 metre length =120 degrees.
