To provide stakeholders with tools they need to improve coordination and develop cross- cutting policies for the sustainable management (SRM) of their natural resources. 2

3 Establishing networks of relevant stakeholders Development of SRM pilot projects in LAC, to motivate the replication of good practices Identifying opportunities and launching national action plans for SRM

 Management system that guarantees the use and continuous provision of natural resources  Avoids compensation between categories of impact, materials, products, countries, generations and dimensions  Takes into consideration the environmental, social and economic impacts along the life cycle of the resources concerned. 4

Assessment report on Sustainable Resource Management in the LAC region Six critical natural resources identified: ( 1) Fish resources (2) Natural landscape (3) Agricultural land (4) Minerals and metals (5) Water (6) Forest as source of wood Fishery Tourism Agriculture Mining Food and agriculture Forestry

Objective Laying out the framework of analysis for prioritizing resources in LAC region and identifying priority resources. Process 1. Begins December April 2010 – Launching of the GESRE Project in Panama and receiving feedback from the participants for the report 3. July 2010 – Submission of interviews to Experts from the region, members from the GESRE Platform 4. August / September 2010 – Analysis of the interview´s results 5. November 2010 – Workshop in Florianopolis (Brazil) – compilation of case studies 6. April 2011 – Workshop in Coatzacoalcos (Mexico) – compilation of case studies 7. September 2011 – Workshop in Taller Santa Fe (Argentina) – Discussion of preliminary conclusions and recommendations 8. October 2011 – Review and feedback from members of ECLAC, WFN, pilot projects representatives and GESRE´s platform 7

 Construction of roads and irrigation infrastructure, linked to the Project “Biodiversity Protection”, which aims to recover with native species erosion-affected creeks.  SRM indicators: Resource distribution is done jointly with the indigenous communities which define in which social projects the money will be invested. 16

 Environmental recovery of damamaged watersheds, trough reforestation and sustainable use of land.  SRM indicators : 630 farmers received a first payment for reforested lots  65 hectares of degraded lots, reforested  Trees as an income generating activity 17

 Fund, subject to tendering, which helps to up-scale household economies, through sustainable initiatives against desertification.  Coquimbo and Los Lagos Communities.  SRM indicators : Financed 62 projects in 4 years (4500 families, persons). 19
