conjured Now Jessie bit her lip, wishing she hadn’t conjured up such a memory. What words help us decide the meaning of the word? Conjured-to call forth; to produce as if by magic. Example: Her imagination conjured up a splendid scene.

drone Distantly, she heard the drone of another car moving along the road from Clifton. How did you determine the meaning? Drone- to make a dull humming or buzzing sound.

gawked She waited for a car to leave, most curious about what happened then. Finally a big yellow one—one of the monster maybe limousines Jessie had gawked at earlier— roared down the road. Using context clues what do you think this word means? Gawked-to gape or stare stupidly.
