Education Problems In Pakistan

Introduction Around the world, there are many countries that deny education to certain groups of people because of certain believes and mind sets on what they should not do. However education is to be meant for everyone regardless of race, religion and gender etc, and this cause is supported by the UNESCO Pakistan is one of these countries that have this problem, mainly because the Taliban there opposes girls to have education because it is so called against the rules of Islam.

Introduction In 2009, Mullah Shah Doran, second in command of the Taliban in Swat valley, announced that girls should not go to school from 15 January onwards. Even before 2009, many girls have already dropped out of schools because of the fear of the Taliban taking action against. With the enforcement of this rule now, more number of goals are subjected to terror and escalated fear for their own lives when they come back from school everyday, thus a further increased number of girls dropped out of collages and secondary schools.

General Impacts Attacks on female schools and female students were often after the announcement to ban girls to attend school. More than 134 schools and collages have been destroyed by the militants and the majority of these institutions were for girls. Cause widespread worry among parents who want their daughters to stop schooling, however, this made the desperation for attending lessons among girls even higher. The journey to school and from school to home was always a dangerous one as they lived constantly in the fear of Taliban militants taking action against them. They walked quickly and stare at the ground, avoiding contact with any suspected militants in the crowd.

Reasons Why did the Taliban oppose girls to having a education? They deemed it as an un-Islamic act, thus sought out to destroy education for females. During that time, females had very little rights and could not even work or go to the outside without a male relative and being covered in full with clothes.

Impacts On Affected People Girls still want to go to school despite the risky consequences. Education activists and supporters like Malala’s father felt angry and disappointed with the ineffectiveness of the Pakistan government to react to the Taliban ban. They feel everyone should have a right to education. Caused hate for the Taliban, which has since bombed and killed many innocent students and teachers.

Treatment of Women The Taliban did not support the basic rights of women and women at that point of time were commonly abused, being seen as of less significance. They could be forced in to marriage at a very young age and normally had to put up with their abusive husbands who would beat, and sometimes in extreme cases, rape them too. And of course, their right to receive education was taken away as they were seen as useless and inferior to men.

Impact on Nation Increased percentage of women became illiterate as they did not undergo education Number of women in the work force dropping by a large amount Anger arousing from the people, due to the bombings of innocent civilians and elimination of young girls just trying to get education
