Presentation transcript:

Do Now Please write your HW in your agenda and update your table of contents. Please open your notebook to your Safe Lab drawing to be checked by Mr. Lerner or Mr. Wild. Please take a sheet from the front, fold in half (booklet style), and tape/glue it onto page 6. Page #Title 1Class Syllabus 2-3The Nature of Science 4-5Lab Safety 6-7Safety Scenarios

Acid in the Eye This demo will show the importance of wearing safety goggles! On the front of your booklet, you will be writing your observations of the “simulated eye” in the space provided. You must also draw your observations! Draw a before and after of the simulated eye – use color/shading to distinguish between the before and after!

Safety Scenarios Gina is thirsty. She rinses a beaker with water, refills it with water, and takes a drink. At the sink where Gina is Jarah splashes some water on Evan. To get Jarah back, Evan splashes him as well.

Safety Scenarios Yeeun’s legs are sore from track practice so she decides she is going to take a rest and sit on top of the lab table since there are no stools available. Her partner is finishing up the experiment and has run out of a certain chemical so she enters the stock room to refill.

Safety Scenarios On each table, there is a different safety scenario. Read it over with your group, and write the following in the corresponding box in your notebook. Describe what the student(s) in the scenario is doing wrong. Explain what the student(s) should have done instead. You will be given about 3 minutes at each station, and then you will rotate to another table until you have read each safety scenario.

Homework You will be reading a short story about SpongeBob and Patrick’s science class! As you read, please underline or highlight each safety rule violation. Be prepared to discuss this reading in class tomorrow.
