How to Make a Clay Boot

Use slabs to form the sole and heel Use slabs to form the sole and heel. Use 2 wedges to support the gaps and cover them with newspaper so they don’t stick.

Form the toecap from a slab and strengthen the join on the inside with a roll of clay.

Use slabs to form the sides of boot and strengthen join with a roll again.

Support join with a roll of clay.

Add the tongue and support with a small roll of clay in an unseen place.

While clay is still damp press in, while supporting from the inside, to create the illusion of creases in the leather.

With a flat ended wooden tool push in then up to make the rubber sole stick out further than the leather.

for stitching - add clay or incise texture

Mark on then poke through for lace holes.

Carve in or add a little roll of clay for the islets.

Use a very thin slab to cut laces and pay particular attention to joining.
