The Cola Aquarium Observe the “cola aquarium” your teacher has set up. Feel free to explore it, just leave it as you found it. Explain what you see and why. Post your explanation. Picture from: /$file/P jpg

Aluminum Foil Does Al Foil sink or float? Can you make it do both? What did you change to make it do both? (Post your answer) Show your teacher when you have done both. Picture from: JPhTKnI/AAAAAAAAAjg/5JKfGFhOp64/s400/aluminum_foil.jpg

Dancing Popcorn Materials: Vinegar (about 50 mL) Baking Soda Popcorn A clear container (beaker) half filled with water A stirring rod (or something that stirs). Picture from: Taken from: ties/popcorn.exe ties/popcorn.exe

Directions Add about a spoonful of baking soda to the water Stir until soda dissolves. Let it sit for a minute and the water will become clear again. Add popcorn kernels to the water/soda mixture. You will need enough to cover the bottom of the container. SLOWLY add some vinegar to the container. WARNING: Do not add all the vinegar at once. Add slowly. Observe the system

Direction (cont.) Look down at the mixture. Focus on one or two kernels. What do you notice about the bubbles and the kernels?

Explaining the Dancing Popcorn Explain the dancing popcorn. Why are they rising and falling. Read the sources below for some help. They explain dancing raisins. ing-raisins-the-bubble-lifter ing-raisins-the-bubble-lifter Post your explanation.

Testing your understanding Using only the clay given to you by your teacher, float as many pennies as you can. Show your teacher your best effort.

Now: The Big Test Make a golf ball float without altering the golf ball.
