India's Renewable Energy Sector Growth India will play a key role in solving the global climate challenge. India's Government wants to use and develop Renewable Energy sources, such as Solar / Wind power, to reduce the thick air pollution generated by expensive traditional sources such as oil and coal. According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) report, 'Global Trends in Sustainable Energy Investment 2009', India's renewable energy investment grew by 12% in With an investment of $3.7 billion in one year, India's renewable energy sector is on course to meet the ambitious target set by the Indian Government in the 11th Five Year Plan. The plan aimed for the sector to grow to $19 billion from 2008 to 2012, with renewables making up 20% of the 70 GW of total additional energy planned from OVERVIEW नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY

Renewable Energy Technology showcases the latest technologies and innovations that are continuing to change the Renewable Energy industry. Our exclusive and comprehensive coverage is maintained each quarter by in-depth articles and case studies focussing on the following core areas:- Core Editorial topics: Editorial / Advertising content helps readers to optimise and understand: -New technology implementation from overseas -Energy conservation -> environmental protection -> SUSTAINABILITY -Best practice and new trends in Engineering, Manufacturing and R & D -Building capacity and Renewable Energy project development SOLAR PV (e.g Crystalline, Thin Film, BIPV etc) BIO ENERGY ( e.g.Biomass, Bio Fuels) SOLAR Thermal CSP MARINE Energy ( e.g Wave and Tidal) WIND (e.g. Wind Turbine Manufacturing/ Project Development/ Assessment) Energy Efficiency ( e.g. Cleantech, Energy Conversion and Waste Management) CONTENT नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY

Project developers, IPP’s and EPCs have a lack of experience in these sectors and developers have struggled to find high quality local components. Rajasthan solar policy indicated an ambitious target of installing 12 GW of solar by the end of 2022 and other states such as Gujarat have also set impressive targets which will need to be met by Increasingly India is recognising what can be learnt from the west and welcomes companies from Europe and North America being able to supply this market with its quality and expertise in these sectors. We have a strong focus on establishing quality component manufactures who can supply for CSP but also solar thermal. As well as CSP, solar thermal is also making quite an impression on the global solar mix and India is no exception. With rural electrification and clean hot water being a real issue in rural areas of India solar thermal is something which holds great importance to Indians domestic energy future. Also in the cities we are increasingly seeing solar thermal systems are being fitted on top of buildings and generally being integrated more and more in construction of commercial or residential developments.

Readers include CEO’s, MD’s chief engineers, management, technical professionals and key decision makers from: - Renewable Energy Authorities- Government Procurement Offices - Municipalities / Urban Planning- Research & Development Institutes - Design Institutes- Contractors / Sub Contractors - Environmental Consultants- Transportation Companies - Utilities / State Grid / Power Bureaus- Wind Turbine Manufacturers - Tier 1,2,3 Manufacturers- Wind Farm Project Planners - Wind Farm owners / Developers- R&D institutes Examples of Wind subscribers: Suzlon, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Enercom, ReGen Powertech, Gamesa, Vestas, Siemens, Avanti Wind System, SSB, Shriram, Global Wind Power Today the Indian market is emerging as one of the major manufacturing hubs for wind turbines in Asia. Currently, seventeen manufacturers have an annual production capacity of 7,500 MW. According to the WISE, the annual wind turbine manufacturing capacity in India is likely to exceed 17,000 MW by The Indian market is expanding with the leading wind companies like Suzlon, Vestas, Enercon, RRB Energy and GE now being joined by new entrants like Gamesa, Siemens, and WinWinD, all vying for a greater market share. Suzlon, however, is still the market leader with a market share of over 50%. The Indian wind industry has not been significantly affected by the financial and economic crises. Even in the face of a global slowdown, the Indian annual wind power market has grown by almost 68%. However, it needs to be pointed out that the strong growth in 2010 might have been stimulated by developers taking advantage of the accelerated depreciation before this option is phased out OVERVIEW WIND

RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY Hydro Hydro power contributes about 21.5% of India's total installed power capacity of 1,76,990 MW (June, 2011), i.e. 38,106 MW. A capacity addition of 78,700 MW is envisaged from different conventional sources during (the 11th Plan), which includes 15,627 MW from large hydro projects. In addition to this, a capacity addition of 1400 MW was envisaged from small hydro up to 25 MW station capacity. The total hydroelectric power potential in the country is assessed at about 150,000 MW, equivalent to 84,000 MW at 60% load factor. The potential of small hydro power projects is estimated at about 15,000 MW. India is ranked 5th globally in terms of exploitable hydro-potential. In addition, 56 number of pumped storage projects have also been identified with probable installed capacity of MW. In addition to this, hydro-potential from small, mini & micro schemes has been estimated as MW from sites. Thus, India is endowed with hydro-potential of about 250,000 MW. Readers include CEO’s, MD’s chief engineers, management, technical professionals and key decision makers from: - Hydro Power Project Developers- Biofuel, Biomass and Biogas Project Developers - Engineering, Procurement and Consulting Firms (EPCs) - Biofuel, Biomass and Biogas Plant / Refinery Owners and Operators - Biofuel and Feedstock Producers- Hydro OEMs and Component Manufacturers - Contractors / Sub Contractors- Electric Utilities - Hydro Power Plant Designers and Operators- Research and Development Institutes Bio India is a predominantly agrarian economy, with availability of large quantities of biomass, which can be productively harnessed for meeting its burgeoning energy needs, as well as address larger developmental issues such as income and employment generation, environment protection and wasteland/saline land development, and improved quality of life of rural communities. The role & contribution of Bio-Energy in addressing India’s climate change and energy security needs, is on the rise and to give a further boost to this sector, the Government of India is contemplating the launch of Bio- Energy Mission during the 12th Five Year Plan. The amount of emission reduction that can be achieved through bio-energy varies, depending on the choices made from feedstock selection and production to the final use.

Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission The Indian government has announced the National Solar Mission, outlining ambitious long-term plans to attain an installed solar power generation capacity of 20 GW by the year 2022, which would be increased to 100 GW by the year 2030, and 200 GW by the year The Solar Mission targets are: To create an enabling policy framework for the deployment of 20 GW of solar power by To ramp up capacity of grid-connected solar power generation to 1 GW by 2013; an additional 3 GW by 2017 through the mandatory use of the renewable purchase obligation by utilities backed with a preferential tariff. This capacity can be more than doubled – reaching 10 GW installed power by 2017 or more, based on the enhanced and enabled international finance and technology transfer. To create favourable conditions for solar manufacturing capability, particularly solar thermal. To promote programs for off grid applications, reaching 1 GW by 2017 and 2 GW by To achieve 15 million square meters solar thermal collector area by 2017 and 20 million square meters solar thermal collector area by To deploy 20 million solar lighting systems for rural areas by The publication enjoys a close working relationship with: Indian Government Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Indian Ministry of Rural Development; Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association; New Solar Thermal Federation of India; Maharashtra Solar Manufacturers Association, India, Solar Energy Society of India MARKET OVERVIEW नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा प्रौद्योगिकी RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY
