Tips for using Social Networking Sites Brittany Edic

Facebook Allowed to choose who sees profile Be careful in what information is posted Know the people added as friends No users under age 13 allowed on site

Myspace Do not meet users in person Only add true information Never give out your name/address Remember that not all users on the site are who they say they are

Remember: Social networking sites are seen by many people Think about what you post and the impact it may have Protect passwords, don’t give them out to friends

MySpace, YouTube and Facebook Social Networking Joel Patterson

MySpace.Com MySpace is a social networking site that has hundreds of millions of registered users MySpace was created by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe in 2003

MySpace Features A MySpace user creates a profile that describes themselves, users can view each others profiles and friend one another You can send messages, share pictures and create common interest groups with other users For musicians, you can create a music profile and upload your original works to have other viewers hear it

Profile Example

YouTube.com YouTube is a social network based around sharing videos for the world to see YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim in 2005

How does YouTube work? YouTube allows its registered users to post videos on the site for not only it’s registered users to view, but anyone on the internet to view. YouTube has over 20 million views per month with around 64,000 movie uploads per day You can find anything from original videos created by users to TV and movie clips on YouTube

Facebook.com Facebook is a social network originally designed for college students to interact with other students Facebook was created by former Harvard students Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Hughes

Facebook Features Facebook users can interact with one another by sending messages, sharing pictures, and creating groups of interest or classes Users from the same school can view each other’s profiles without making them friends where as students from other schools need to be confirmed friends to view each other’s profiles Many students use Facebook to help one another with homework assignments or studying for tests
