Safe Summer Swim Program Safe Summer Swim Program  Funding:  How it got started?  Closing of the Jackson Outdoor Pool in the SE end of Canton that was operated by the City of Canton  Approached Canton Recreation Department and asked to help me with discussions with the City Of Canton Mayors Office to support the need of swimming lessons to our children of CCS  2008 – I Proposed a Learn to Swim Program to the Mayors Office, this was supported by the Canton Recreation Department. This program would be totally funded by money that was budgeted for swimming in the city.  City wanted a spray park, but I showed them facts about the number of drowning by the African American population  – 2 more City Pools were closed down, and the need for this program really became very important  I have been running this Safe Summer Program and it has been a big success for the students of CCS  The City of Canton has funded $40,000 for this program over the past 4 years
