China Initial SWIM Program Overview Air Traffic Management Bureau, CAAC Aero-Info Technologies Chiang Mai, March 2012 SP/12

Background  China Initial SWIM Project launched in 2011  A sub-program of China Civil Aviation Collaborative ATM Technology Program, Funding by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Civil Aviation Administration of China(CAAC)

 The project aims to – Study and evaluate SWIM concept and key technologies – Propose Information Management Infrastructure for next generation ATM system in China – Prototype and demonstrate initial SWIM capabilities Background

Schedule Task 1(Phase II) Task 1(Phase I) Task 2(Phase II) Task 2(Phase I) TASK 1 : SWIM Requirements Analysis TASK 3 SWIMprototype development TASK 2 : SWIMKey technologies study Task 4 Task 3(Phase II) Task 3(Phase I) Milestone Milestone TASK4 SWIMdemo system deployment and evaluation Milestone

Tasks of initial phase (1)  Prototype platform requirement analysis – Bottom Up  What current ATM applications are involved in SWIM?  What types of information are shared through SWIM? – Top Down  New ATM operation concepts and procedures

Tasks of initial phase (2)  Technology study – Investigate current ATM system characteristics – e.g. ATC, AIS, MET … – Technology pre-screening based on defined selection principle and criteria  High level system architecture candidates – e.g. SOA, EAI…  Integration technology candidates – e.g. Web Service, REST, MOM, JMS, CORBA ….  Should pay more attentions to particular driving force of architecture design, i.e. security, performance, governance etc.

 Establish SWIM laboratory – Technology assessment – Prototype development – Test bed Tasks of initial phase (3)

Participants TECHNICAL CENTER OF ATMB China Travelsky BEIHANG UNIVERSITY NORTH CHINA ATMB AERO-INFO TECHNOLOGIES

Plan of 2012  Annual target – Launch platform requirement analysis – Start examining varies candidate technologies  Expected deliverables – Defined project management principle – Identify Platform requirement – Key technology assessment report
