College Prep Statistics Chapter 8 Dart Throw Final Review

Dart Throw Review Students will be split up into groups of 4-5. Each student will be assigned a letter A-E. All students are responsible for backing up their answers on their own sheet of paper. When a letter is called, that group member must present their work to a teacher. If the student is correct and has shown all work, then they will put a tally mark next to their team name. If the student is incorrect, they will no receive a tally mark and the group must correct their work. After a few rounds of questions, students will throw darts on the board for points.

Dart Throw Scoring Board -20 points if the dart does not land inside the square or if it falls on the ground No points if the dart lands in the white region

Question 1 Test the given claim. A random sample of 100 pumpkins is obtained and the mean circumferences is found to be 40.5 cm. Assuming that the population standard deviation is known to be 1.6cm, use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the mean circumference of all pumpkins is equal to 39.9 cm. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to conclude the mean circumference of all pumpkins is not equal to 39.9 cm.

Question 2 Test the given claim. In Oswego, monthly incomes for men with college degrees were found to have a standard deviation of $650. Use a 0.01 significance level to test the claim that for men without college degrees in Oswego, incomes have a higher standard deviation. A random sample of 22 men with college degrees resulted in incomes with a standard deviation of $926. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to conclude the standard deviation is greater than $650.

Question 3 Test the given claim. A light-bulb manufacturer advertises that the average life for its light bulbs is 900 hours. A random sample of 15 of its light bulbs resulted in the following lives in hours: 995, 590, 510, 539, 739, 917, 571, 555, 916, 728, 664, 693, 708, 887, 849 Test the claim at 0.01 significance level. Reject the null hypothesis. There is sufficient evidence to conclude the mean life in hours is not equal to 900.
