Proposal To create a base of metadata of geological maps at a scale of 1: worldwide and publish it on the Internet for a free access. To develop this Project using the open resource of Google Earth

Metabase – an information centre on the Internet for retrieval of information on geological maps worldwide The creation of the metabase will allow getting answers to the following questions: availability of geological maps at a scale of 1: and smaller for the given region; degree of urgency of geological maps ; storage place and possibility of its use; legal issues for its acquisition and further application.

Standards for data description in the metabase The metabase should be created based on the accepted ISO standard, contain the descriptions of cartographical materials agreed and contain reduced raster images of geological maps.

The metabase objects should have a spatial positioning As a cartographic navigator for the metabase of digital geological maps worldwide, the known resources, as for instance Google Earth, can be used.
