Tournaments & Jousting Tournaments & Jousting By:Claire Y. & Casie B. Core 1

Tournaments Tournaments began in 11th century France. A Tournament can be called a tourney. A tourney is the name popularly given to chivalrous competitions or mock fights of the middle ages and Renaissance. A mock fight is an arranged fight that is fake. Like wrestling.

Jousting Jousting offered large sums of money, although dangerous. It consists of a series of competitions using a variety of weapons usually in sets of 3 per weapon (such as tilting with a lance, blows with a battle axe, strokes with a dagger or sword), often as part of the tournament.

Jousting Continued Jousting permitted a better display of individual skill. Many knights made fortune, while many knights lost their fortune or even their lives. Henry the 2nd France died when his opponent`s lance went through his visor and shattered into fragments, blinding his right eye and penetrating his right temple.
