Presentation transcript:

Dawson Golf Rules for Players Each Golf player and parent must abide by all Pearland ISD, Pearland Golf, UIL, and USGA rules and regulations as follows:

“The DHS Golf program is set up for our players to better their golf skills and further learn this great life long sport. Our goal is simply to strive to compete ethically and honestly for district and area honors both as individuals and as a team.” Mission Statement PLAYER RANKINGS To be determined by scores- practice rounds/tournaments

1. Conduct oneself appropriately while at school, on the course, or at school functions. The following behaviors will not be tolerated: -Hazing -Inappropriate language -Failure to follow instructions from coach, teacher or administrator -Disorderly conduct on course or at school -UIL, USGA Code of Conduct violations and unsportsmanlike conduct may result in the coach removing the golf player from the course and forfeiting his round 2. Initial rankings for the beginning of season will be set up by scoring the average of completed rounds or skill level leading up to the first tournament. Forming of teams and ranking are done as follows: -Varsity- ranked players JV/Beginners- 11-? 3. Players are expected to wear the following appropriate attire during practices and tournaments- if not-players will not be allowed to participate and it will result in an unexcused missed practice: -Collared shirt or mock turtle neck -Pants/shorts -Golf soft spikes / athletic shoes

4.Immediate suspension /removal from team will result from the following major offenses- occurring in or outside of school, in-season or off-season: -Drug possession or use -Alcohol possession or use -Arrest by law enforcement -Fighting -Theft -Vandalism -Insubordinate 5. Consequences: -First offense: suspension for one week of practice and one tournament -Second offense: suspension for remainder of semester -Third offense: dismissal from program 6. Spectators and Parents are asked to conduct themselves in the following manner during tournaments: -Remain a substantial distance from competitors during play -Refrain from coaching or ‘advising’ once play had begun -Support and applaud during play -Avoid interfering with course play i.e. reporting rule violations or player conduct. Such violations are reported by players, coaches and marshals only (SEE NEW SPECTATOR RULE SHEET)

7. Players are expected to attend and participate in 7th period athletics golf class including any workouts at school or practices at Clear Creek Golf course. SIMPLE RULE: NO PRACTICE= NO PLAY= REMOVAL FROM GOLF Students are also expected to conduct themselves accordingly when in the classroom during non practice days in 7th period. Missed practices require a written excuse or contact from parent. Acceptable reasons for absences: -Other school extracurricular activities -Private/group golf lessons -Tutorials (signed note form instructor is required upon return) -Family emergencies -Family obligations with notice -Inclement weather- players will make arrangements for transportation home during athletics and school hours -Student employment after school 8. Transportation for players to practices/tournaments are as followed to Clear Creek Golf course: -Shuttle bus from Dawson campus -By player’s parent/guardian -Students driving themselves- STUDENTS CAN’T DRIVE OTHER STUDENTS DURING SCHOOL HOURS. (alternate travel form filled out for filing and approved by DHS administration) Students that do drive themselves to the course only can do so if they comply with all the expectations given by the coach. If the student fails to do so- their alternate travel form will be pulled and they will not be allowed to drive. For example- a student not actively participating in practice will lose their privilege of driving themselves.

9. Players are able to letter completing the following: -Compete in at least 4 Varsity tournaments during season -Senior year if already been in program -Academically eligible the entire year -Coach’s recommendation based on participant’s attendance record, work habits, and sportsmanship 10. Practice Schedule is as follows: (weather permitting) -Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday till Clear Creek Golf Course -Wednesday and Friday (Offical days off- player option to go practice) 11. Tournament Schedule is as follows: -Each player could be eligible to compete in up to 7 events throughout the school year- usually 3-4 in the fall / 3-4 in the spring depending on rank amongst teammates. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PLAY if you are a lower rank in individual standings within the team. 10. Players are expected to participate in the following: -Team Fundraisers -Community Service Project ( Every sport DHS participates in their own CSP) NEW RULE- Each player is responsible for letting the coach know if they cannot attend a golf tournament either by phone or from the player or the player’s parents before the day of the tournament. If the player fails to do so and is a “no show” the morning of the tournament- they are responsible for paying their entry fee back to the school- $35 per tournament. Checks payable to Pearland ISD Athletics.

SOCIAL MEDIA! (twitter, text, instagram) School Rule- not to be used during school hours/instruction. If caught- subject to suspension from golf participation & punishment from administration

The Head Coach reserves the right to make necessary decisions at his discretion. Examples of such decisions could be, but not limited to: -Forming of teams -Changes to teams due to performance, player conflicts, academics, etc. -Removal from program due to offenses and/or violations to team or school rules -Any other actions required due to incidents/situations not listed above TOP ISSUES / CONCERNS regarding rules from seasons past that WILL be strongly enforced 1.Participation!!! If players fail or choose to not practice or participate- they will be removed from the program. This is for interested players only! 2.“No Show Rule” for tournaments. Students are required to pay back entry fee for unexcused missed tournaments. Past years hundreds of dollars were wasted on player unexcused absences or “no shows”. $35 paid to PISD Athletics 3.Player behavior in classroom for 7 th period (non practice days) whether its study hall or watching golf instructional videos 4.Players that drive- YOU CANNOT DRIVE OTHER PLAYERS TO THE COURSE DURING SCHOOL HOURS! It’s against PISD policy. After school hours- 2:15 and beyond- players are at their own risk with regards to transportation if not riding bus back to school. 5.Player reminder… You don’t have the right to play sports for Dawson High, it’s a privilege. You may play ONLY by abiding all rules and expectations set forth by the coach and PISD administration.

NEW UIL GOLF RULES TO NOTE 1.Range finders allowed. Only the “Point and Shoot” kind showing distance- no slope or GPS. 2.Coaching allowed by team coaches only throughout all play. 3.3 teams / 3 individuals advance from Regionals (used to be just 2) 4.Statewide push for HS Golf Scoreboard for ALL schools for ranking system in Texas.
