 Service-learning is a teaching method that combines service to the community with classroom curriculum. It is more than merely community service. It is a hands-on approach to mastering subject material while fostering civic responsibility.

 Increase understanding of class topic  Gain hands-on experience  Possibly lead to internship or job later  Explore or cement your values and beliefs  Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills  Grows your understanding of diverse cultures and communities

 Improve your ability to handle ambiguity and be open to change  Develop and enhance skills such as, communication, collaboration, and leadership  Test out your skills, values, and interests in a potential career path  Connect with professionals and community members whom you will learn from 

 The Doug Henderson III Memorial Fund was founded in memory of a young man who lost his fight with cancer in But through support from family, friends, and the community, Doug’s legacy will be one of great contributions of spirit and gifts to his hometown.  In the golf tournament’s first 6 years, it has raised over $210,000 in donations that went back into Valdosta’s community.

 At this golf tournament we helped drive the beverage carts that cater to the players. I really enjoyed serving at this tournament, because I have known the Henderson family my whole life.

 Vallotton is a park filled with recreational fields for youth. This allows them to participate in things such as baseball, soccer, and football.

 At Vallotton I did different jobs around the park that they needed me to do. This included working the concession stand, picking up trash after games, or working the press box.

 By doing community service through service- learning I have gained experience in areas I would otherwise know nothing about. I have always enjoyed helping others, and this was the perfect way to do that.
