Notice to Teachers, Parents and Guardians We are sending you this notice to alert you that the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office will begin an intensive program of stopping and ticketing drivers who are speeding or that do not yield to pedestrians in crosswalks during school commuting hours starting this coming week. Speed limits will be strictly enforced. We need your help to make Deltona safer for children walking and bicycling to and from school. You can help by: Travelling below the speed limit Looking for pedestrians in crosswalks Yielding by stopping or slowing for the pedestrian as required by law. What about pedestrians? Pedestrians often dart out into traffic. Children and seniors are over-represented in pedestrian-related crashes Some initiatives directed at pedestrians: -School brochures, notice to parents, -20 minute presentations for K-9 students, -warnings and citations for pedestrian violations -Prompting sign at crosswalks
