Energy Efficiency Measures Southend Landlord Forum – 20 th November 2014 Peter Chisnall

Climate Energy We provided a complete range of energy efficiency solutions to local authorities, housing providers, private landlords and homeowners across the South West of England. Our services span all aspects of energy efficiency, from consultancy and project management through to delivery at a local level via a national network of accredited assessors and installers. Over the past 12 years, the company has expanded through a programme of acquisition’s and now operates UK-wide. Today, in addition to retrofitting existing housing stock with a variety of energy efficiency measures and renewable technologies, the company also builds new residential and commercial properties to Zero Carbon and Passive House standards. We are the UK's largest independent energy efficiency company.

Government Official Statement “From 2016, any tenant or their representatives asking for their landlord’s consent to make reasonable energy efficiency improvements cannot be refused. From 2018, the rental of the very worst performing properties – those rated F and G – will be banned through a minimum energy efficiency standard.” Chris Huhne MP, 10 May 2011, Energy Act 2011

Changes The Government are currently in consultation regarding a minimum energy efficiency standard for private rented homes from 2018 The energy efficiency rating of a property is determined by carrying out an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) The draft regulations currently out for consultation proposes that the impact this will have on your property portfolio is that any rented accommodation with an energy rating of F and G will no longer be suitable for renting 2018/2020 The draft regulation states that a tenant or their representative can ask their landlord for measures to be installed
