What Is A TsunamiTsunami By: Luke Pfeiffer In Partnership with Lindsey Wright

What Is A Tsunami? A tsunami is a series of waves usually caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption, or less commonly a meteor strike.

How Fast Can A Tsunami Go? An average tsunami wave can easily reach speeds over 500 mph!

How Can Scientist Predict The Arrival Of A Tsunami? Scientists can accurately estimate the time when a tsunami will arrive almost anywhere around the world based on calculations using the depth of the water, distances from one place to another, and the time that the earthquake or other event occurred.

How Big Can Tsunamis Be? While in deep water the tsunami may only be about a foot tall but once it approaches the shore it can grow up to 100 ft!

Is A Tsunami Just 1 Wave? No, a tsunami is a series of waves A.K.A a wave train, many people think the danger of the tsunami is gone after the first wave.

How Can I Avoid A Tsunami? Before the first wave of a tsunami hits the water will recede which will give you a clear sign of a tsunami approaching the wave will come about 5 minutes after the water recedes.
